About us
The Hedeby and Danevirke Association gives the participation of various regional stakeholders in the World Heritage Site a permanent and binding organisational form. The objectives and measures defined in the Management Plan must be coordinated with the (public) owners and other stakeholders to ensure their effective implementation. The association was established in 2009 and, as of September 2023, has 26 regular members or 29 regular and supporting members. The members come from different areas, such as districts, collective municipalities, cities / municipalities, museums, tourism, culture and nature conservation.
The purpose of the non-profit association is to promote
- a. monument protection and monument preservation,
- b. nature conservation as well as
- c. nature- and monument-compatible communication and perceptibility of the World Heritage Site
to ensure the sustainable preservation and use of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hedeby and the Danevirke and its setting.
The association is managed by the Site Project Management Hedeby and the Danevirke.

You would like to join us as a member?
Our association’s statues make a distinction between regular and supporting members. The regular members are mainly the property owners in the area of the monument as well as other regional partner institutions. Supporting members can be (a) natural and (b) legal persons. The annual membership fee is (a) € 50 and (b) € 500, respectively.
