Places that tell stories
The trading center of Hedeby and the defensive structure of Danevirke consist of a spatially interconnected complex of earthworks, ramparts and ditches, a settlement, burial grounds and a harbor on the Schleswig isthmus of the Jutland peninsula. This particular geographical position allowed a strategic connection between Scandinavia and the European mainland, as well as the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
