Places that tell stories

The trading center of Haithabu and the Danewerk defensive structure consist of a spatially interconnected complex of earthworks, ramparts and ditches, a settlement, burial grounds and a port on the Schleswig isthmus of the Jutland peninsula. This special geographical location provided a strategic link between Scandinavia and the European mainland as well as the North and Baltic Seas.
